Buckle Up For a Buck Hits Laurel

Police hand out dollar bills this afternoon along Route 1.

It’s not every day a driver can get paid for following the law.

But starting today at noon along Route 1 in Laurel, Prince George’s County police handed out $ bills to drivers who buckled up as part of the National Click It or Ticket Campaign.

NBC Washington reported that an officer was scheduled to be along the 13600 block of Baltimore Avenue doling out cash to drivers and passengers who  fastened their seat belts.

Money for the event was donated by the Prince Georg’s County Community Federal Credit Union.

Click It or Ticket is an annual campaign sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Maryland State Highway Administration’s Safety Office and aims to increase seat belts use among drivers and passengers.

We're trying to find out how many folks showed up for the event. Or how much money the police how to give out.. That would be an interesting detail.
