“Cops on Rooftops” Fundraiser Planned

A fundraiser has been scheduled for this weekend, featuring cops atop a donut shop hoping to draw $10,000 in donations for Special Olympics Maryland.

Dunkin’ Donuts, a proverbial haunt for police officers, will be featuring more than a dozen cops atop its rooftop in Mount Ranier over the weekend.

The donut-loving bunch, expected to include officers from Riverdale Park and Hyattsville, hopes to draw in donations totaling $10,000 for Special Olympics Maryland from the public and fellow Dunkin’ lovers.

The officers will be raising awareness of an annual Law Enforcement Torch Run also benefiting Special Olympics Maryland, an organization that provides children and adults with intellectual disabilities sports training and other opportunities throughout the year for free.

“Cops and donuts have a long, humorous history together, so it was only fitting that we team up with the great folks at Dunkin’ Donuts for this light-hearted event,” said Hyattsville Police Chief Douglas Holland in a press release. “This event allows us to do something great for an incredible organization and poke a little fun at ourselves at the same time. What could be better than that?”

When & Where: 3030 Queens Chapel Road in Mt. Ranier, from 6 a.m. on Saturday through Sunday.

Police chiefs and other local officials will also be present during the event on Saturday, between 9 and 10 a.m.

What a wonderful idea! Thanks for posting this story. Our police not only protect us, they help those among us who are most needy. That's wonderful!
