Thousands of civilian defense workers received details on furloughs this week. The Pentagon announced 11 days of furloughs, beginning once a week on July 8.

Ironically, the furloughs will give a boost to the number of local concerts by the U.S. Army Field Band. Normally, the band goes on an extensive summer tour around the country, but that's likely to be cut in favor of more concerts closer to home, Meade Week reported.
