Gallery: Columbia Wegmans Opening Day
Photos from the long-awaited opening day of the newest Wegmans grocery store in Columbia, Md.
Today is the day, it's finally here!
Wegmans in Columbia is finally open, and the Patch was there to see it.
Were up this morning for the 7 a.m. grand opening? If you were, what did you think of the new grocery store?

Great pics! I don't get all the excitement over a grocery store, but hey, all the power to Wegmans for reaching this amazing level of success by proving people what they want.
Ken Ulman looks like a hungover Pillsbury Doughboy. I just want to poke his stomach and say "woo-hoo!"

Cool, you caught a pic of my wife and me in the cafe with coffee and a muffin messaging our friends and families on our iPhones! We enjoyed being there at the 7am opening and plan many return trips...

I love Wegman's but not enough to stand in a line of 2,000. I'll get there eventually though. Trust and believe.

I've never been to a Wegman's, but I completely understand why stores like this can be a big deal, and I do plan on making it to the store once the crowds have tapered. What I do not understand is why people would go out of their way to stand in line for hours for the moment of opening. Were there door prizes? Specials? I was under the impression that the store had announced that all of their grand opening sales would be available for the first couple of weeks, so what incentive was there to fight the crowds at 7am on Father's Day?

Boh, we didn't go yesterday morning, but I think it's sort of like the Black Friday after Thankskgiving atmosphere/ritual. Some people just want to be there. We decided to mosey on over around 5 p.m. yesterday and it wasn't "bad". There were a lot of people, but there were also a lot of workers, including people directing traffic in the garage. It wasn't any worse than a typical Saturday afternoon at the Hunt Valley store. It was funny listening to comments from people who had never been to a Wegman's before - they were easily recognized by the stunned looks on their faces in areas such as the cheese shop and bulk candy/nuts areas.

I was at Mass with my family. Not really how I would want to start my Father's Day. Congrats to Wegmans on the new store.

Leland, which one wasn't how you would want to start your Father's Day - Wegman's or Mass? Sorry, couldn't resist...
