Howard County Executive Ken Ulman dropped by Landover on Wednesday to pick up roadside trash in a Redskins jersey, fulfilling the terms of a wager with Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker.

The two top officials had placed a friendly bet on Sunday's matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Redskins. Ulman, a diehard Ravens fan, lost out when Baltimore fell to the 'Skins 31-28 in overtime.

Baker, ever the gracious victor, invited Ulman earlier this week to meet him at the Prince George's County Sports & Learning Complex in the shadow of FedEx Field.

Though Ulman arrived sporting purple, he soon found himself clad in the burgundy-and-gold jersey of rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III. After some friendly trash talk, the two executives set off down Sheriff Road to pick up litter together.

Baker, Ulman, and Ulman's daughter Lily climbed a steep embankment to collect bottles, plastic bags, and other trash left in a small grove of trees. At one point, Lily led her father in the singing of fight song "Hail to the Redskins," which the two had been practicing in recent days.

Asked about the meaning of the bet, Ulman said that it signified that "we're all in this together" as Marylanders.

OMG why is this "story" still in the news? Patch, please promise your readership that you will not report on Ken Ulman's bowel movements. I fear that is what the news world is coming to.

He's honoring a bet that he made, and he is doing a service to the community by picking up trash. This is newsworthy. Good on him to do so.

What ever happened to picking up trash in our own county. The west end of old e.c. is looking pretty bad. Especially on the sidewalk

Thank you Justin, I thought I was the only one who noticed how the streets of this county have become full of trash. I pick up trash on my road every weekend. Why why why do I have to pick up other people's crap, can we have a little respect for eachother and the environment? It's disgusting.
