Maryland Brewers Put State on Craft Beer Map

A series on local breweries around the state, Capital News Service reports.

Reporting by Capital News Service's Matthieu Drotar, Sydney Carter, Anna Weaver and Greg Kohn.

Despite being traditionally dominated by states like Colorado and California, craft brewing has become an increasingly important industry for Maryland. With 31 microbreweries and brewpubs currently recognized by the Brewers Association and another 15 in the planning stages, Maryland is beginning to gain national recognition as a new hotspot of beer.

From Franklin's Brewery in Hyattsville to Union Craft Brewing and Pratt Street Ale House in Baltimore to those along the Eastern Shore and in Frederick, MD, the craft beer business is not only growing in Maryland, but becoming profitable.

Patch's Nick Gestido has covered Maryland's breweries in his Craft Beer, Here columns.

This interactive 12-story series, introduces the players in the state's craft beer business. Click on the image above to read the stories and watch the videos.

Does not work on desktop. The articles are terribly hard to read within the iframe, then there is no apparent way to return to the menu.

@david Here you go. They loaded an entire other website into that tiny frame. It should work on iPad, though it is still frivolously ornamented: http://cnsmaryland.org/interactives/breweries/index.html

I'm blessed to be the editor of Hyattsville Patch, home city of Franklin's Restaurant, Brewery and General Store. Think I might go buy a growler or two tonight.

When we get a hankering to drink beer we either hit Racers, Baltimore Taphouse, Mahaffey's or Birrotecca.

How do you get the glass to your lips when they're locked so closely around O'Malley's privates?

I remember when draft beer used to be cheap. Back in my starving college student days we could only afford draft beer and pizza. The other night I took my wife to Earth, Wood and Fire and a 14" pizza was $28 and draft beers were $7.50 a piece.
