New Regional Hospital Hits Roadblock
Plan to move Washington Adventist Hospital near Laurel draws concern from state regulator.

Plans to move Washington Adventist Hospital from Takoma Park to White Oak have run into a roadblock because the state's hospital regulator has recommended that the move be denied.
The proposal would move Washington Adventist Hospital from its current location in Takoma Park to a 48-acre plot in White Oak near the intersection of Route 29 and Cherry Hill Road. The campus is less than 10 miles from Laurel Regional Hospital and would compete for patients.

On Tuesday, the Maryland Health Care Commission, which is reviewing the case, rejected the move request because the hospital “failed to demonstrate that the proposed project is financially feasible and viable,” reports The Washington Post.
Dimension Healthcare System, which operates six hospitals and medical centers in the county, including Laurel Regional, has campaigned to halt the move contending it could lose millions in revenue.

Laurel has been waiting too long for a good hospital. Now we're on track for a better hospital; let Adventist Hospital go someplace else or stay where it is.

Adventist Healthcare just tried to build a hospital in upper Montgomery County that they'd been working on with the community for eight or nine years. Denied. Gave it to another hospital system that applied on the last day. Thanks again, Maryland Healthcare Commission.
