NWS Warns of Sleet and Snow Mix in Howard County Friday
A hazardous weather outlook warns of a nasty wintry mix.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Howard County Friday.
According to the forecast discussion, we can expect a sleet and snow mix. The precipitation, whatever it may be, will likely begin around 6 p.m.
NWS is predicting not much accumulation -- "maybe a trace to a couple hundredths of an inch."
Temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-30s Friday afternoon and night.

@Bootstrap - I'm stocked up on tuna myself. @Justin, the idea is more that this is important because it will affect the evening commute. I've seen what a hundredth of an inch does to the roads and drivers down here.

I definitely understand, @T Stratton. Weather is tricky for us because we never know when a "trace" amount of snow will actually turn out to be a "significant" amount of snow (or the other way around). We try to play it safe when it's forecast to be around rush hour.

They will probably have the snow plows out tonight and tomorrow unlike 4weeks ago when we had snow and they didn't treat the roads....

@Patrick...Howard County treated the Howard County Roads. Maryland State Roads were not treated nor was thier equipment out during that weather occurence. State Roads for H.C are the ones that blew that for major road ways.

Thanks Brandi...Howard County covers alot of area. WESTERN Howard County gets a considerable amount of snow and ice before this end does (E.C Elkridge, Columbia etc). We can be shaking our heads at dry roads and Lisbon can be covered with cars off the road. Hence... Why the alerts, school closings and whatever else seems to happen. Just sayin :)

If people can't drive in hundredths of an inch of any type of weather, then they certainly do not need to be driving. They are the hazard, not the weather. If u get caught in it on ur commute home, stop by Walmart or the library or anywhere else for the very short amount of time it takes to get that little of snow/ice. Just as long as u get off the road, go somewhere
