UPDATE: No Arrest Made in Dunkin' Donuts Death
Anne Arundel County Police have not charged store owner in death of robber.
No charges have been filed against a store owner who shot and killed a man who was allegedly attempting to rob a Dunkin' Donuts store in Laurel early Tuesday, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
The incident happened along the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road after 3:00 a.m. when police responded to calls of a business robbery.
According to police, a 29-year-old man entered the store, pulled out a weapon and announced a robbery. A fight broke out between the suspect and the 48-year-old store owner, and the suspect was subsequently shot in the lower body. He was taken to Prince George's Shock Trauma in serious condition and later died from his injuries.
The suspect's name is being withheld until next of kin are notified, according to Justin Mulcahy, spokesman for county police. Police are still weighing their options with the State's Attorney's Office.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Detective Jason McNemar of the Homicide Unit at 410-222-3463 or the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610.

Again, did not occur in "Laurel". Incident occurred outside the City, in Anne Arundel County.

Thank you for your feedback Dana. As you may know, the greater Laurel area includes parts of Prince George's, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties that are outside the city of Laurel itself. So Laurel zip can include parts of Prince George's, North Laurel in Howard County, and even Maryland City in Anne Arundel, all are areas the Laurel Patch is dedicated to delivering the most up-to-date news for.

Yes, but you didn't say "in the Laurel zipcode" or "the Laurel area", but rather "in Laurel". It is annoying to hear about crimes being attributed to "Laurel" when they really occur outside the City limits. We are protected by our fine Laurel Police force. The misattributions give a false impression of the extent of crimes committed within the City limits, and wrongly degrade the City's image, IMO.

Agree completely with Dana. These 4 separate areas each have 4 separate governments and are served by 4 separate police forces. If you assume that Laurel Patch is being by read by the "greater Laurel" area, then just putting "Laurel" in the title provides no information whatsoever to the reader. And when you write a story about something that happens in one County, but then reference a photo of a police car from a whole other jurisdiction (and County), it calls into your question your commitment to journalistic integrity. A simple way to avoid this is to write "the Laurel area of ... County" or the "City of Laurel" when referencing location.

By the title to the article, "No Arrest Made in Dunkin' Donuts Death" it seems to imply that there should be an arrest and charges against the store owner.
Since 'pursuit of happiness' under the Constitution does not include fast cash withdrawals made at gunpoint, I would have expected a more neutral tone, akin to 'Robber shot, killed during robbery' on the article.
