Community Corner
Free Youth Finance Event Feb. 1
Local non-profit organization MakingChange is hosting a free financial planning event for students ages 12-18 and their parents in the Kittleman Room at Howard Community College on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
The third annual Y-Fi Challenge includes “real life” simulation of planning, goal setting and decision making experiences faced by those choosing a career and sticking to a budget. Students visit stations manned by representatives of local businesses, who discuss everything from transportation, insurance and banking to housing, utilities and clothing. The event simulation is inspired by portions of Junior Achievement’s JA Finance Park program.
Support is being provided by BGE/An Exelon Company, The Columbia Bank, M&T Bank, Nationwide Insurance, Wells Fargo and The Wendy Slaughter Team/REMAX Advantage Realty, Silver Sponsors, and Allen & Shariff Corporation, FAI Wealth Management, Lisa Higgins-Hussman Foundation and Northwest Savings Bank, Event Station Sponsors. Other sponsorships ranging from $1,000-$7,500 are available. Contact info@makingchangecenter.org, or call 443-718-9350.
