Linwood Center Hosts Dedicaiton of New School on Sept. 18

Linwood Center, the Ellicott City-based provider of services for children and adults living with autism, will celebrate the opening of its new school with a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.  Elected officials, board and staff members, donors, neighbors and other supporters are invited to attend the celebration.  There will be a program at 5:15 p.m., followed by tours of the school.  Refreshments will be served.

Linwood Center’s new school houses a state-of-the-art educational program in a 36,000 square foot building.  “The hub of the new school is a library and leading edge technology center that will make communication and learning possible for all students, particularly those impacted by autism,” said Executive Director Bill Moss.  “Working with computers, individualized and group instruction, language stimulation activities, incidental learning, sensory integration and visually aided instruction are all part of the educational experience,” he added.

In addition to accepting students on the more challenging end of the spectrum, the new school will allow Linwood to accept kindergarten to 12th grade students with less severe forms of autism. There are no other comprehensive nonpublic autism programs close to Howard County, and many local students with autism have been bused to schools outside the county.
