Monarch Global Academy Names O’Shea Principal

Monarch Global Academy on Brock Bridge Road in Laurel, Md., named Donna O’Shea principal. O’Shea has more than 30 years of experience in education, including international work in Argentina and Germany. The International Baccalaureate School, which is under construction, will open August 2014.

Previously, O’Shea was principal of Manor View Elementary School, an International Baccalaureate World School in Ft. Meade, Md., where she helped obtain grants for new educational technology, including an iPad cart, smart boards and document cameras. She also was principal of Crofton Elementary School in Crofton, Md.

Prior to moving to Maryland, O’Shea taught elementary school, served as a library media specialist and was principal of three elementary schools, including a dual-language magnet school, in Kansas. She began her career as a teacher in Germany.

“I am excited about beginning this new adventure with Monarch Global Academy,” O’Shea said. “I look forward to hiring outstanding teachers to allow us to provide the best possible instructional program for our students. Monarch Global Academy’s goal is to prepare its students to be world citizens and be ready to interact with the latest technology.”

O’Shea has presented at workshops regionally, nationally and internationally. She completed a yearlong Fulbright Administrator Exchange Fellowship leading professional development groups for three weeks in Argentina last summer. She is a member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and a director of the Association of Educational Leaders in Anne Arundel County.

She received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Wichita State University in Kansas. She holds District Level Certification for Educational Administration as a kindergarten through eighth-grade school administrator. She attended high school in Spain.
