Women's Giving Circle Announces New Grant Program

In its continuing efforts to “build strong women and girls,” The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County is launching a new multi-year grant program.

 

WGC has allocated up to $100,000 in awards to fund new or existing long-term initiatives that further its objectives to increase the life skills of women and girls, encourage the healthy development and personal authority of young girls, develop and/or foster the long term emotional strength and contribute to the long term self-sufficiency of girls and women.

WGC expects to select up to four agencies to receive multi-year grants, not to exceed $100,000 for the three-year funding period, January 1, 2015-December 31, 2017.

Applicants must be registered 501(c)3 organizations and demonstrate that the proposed initiative will be used to serve only Howard County residents.

 

WGC is soliciting Letters of Interest through 5 p.m., June 30, 2014.  Based on the LOIs, WGC will invite organizations to submit full grant applications, which will then be reviewed for final selection of the awardees.

The Women’s Giving Circle is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of women and girls in Howard County. Among its activities, WGC has established a scholarship fund at Howard Community College for women who are seeking training to improve their employment options and founded Journey, a residential summer camp program for girls. WGC provides emergency funding to local nonprofit groups serving women in need, among other grants.

WGC was founded in 2002 and has over 1,100 donors, who have contributed and pledged over $1.1 million to its donor advised fund with the Community Foundation of Howard County.  For information, visit www.womensgivingcircle.org
