5 Things To Know In Laurel, June 13

  1. Was there a body found in Russett over the weekend? One Patch reader after she said Anne Arundel County police swarmed her backyard and were rumored to have found a dead body. Stick with Laurel Patch today for the answer.
  2. The Laurel City Council and mayor will meet today at 7 p.m. at the Laurel Municipal Center for their monthly meeting. It will mark the first meeting for newly Councilwoman Valerie Nicholas.
  3. Like movies? What about parks? This week the city of Laurel will kick off its Friday Flicks Outdoor Movies at Granville Gude Park and Lakehouse. Each Friday through August 5, the city will be showing a feature film in the park starting at about 8 p.m. This week's flick will be Shrek Forever After.
  4. The end is near for businesses sitting along the westbound lanes of Route 198 at the intersection of Route 1, as a planned Walgreens development will require the Mango’s Grill, Irene’s Restaurant and a check cashing store to vacate.   5. Did anyone else notice the new glass wall in place at the Laurel Municipal Center? Laurel Patch's resident blogger Karen Lubieniecki wrote about it in her post a few weeks back. City officials tell Laurel Patch that the wall was mounted for security purposes in early May. Still, some feel the wall is just a barrier between residents and city officials.
