Schools in Howard County are closed Wednesday, and many residents are without power.

Approximately 2,604 BGE customers were without power in Howard County, the utility company reported at 2 p.m.

That represented progress in the last few hours; around 11:30 a.m., approximately 2,904 BGE customers were without power in Howard County.

County officials advised people who saw fallen power lines to call BGE at 877-778-2222. If trees or branches are down, call the Howard County Police Department's non-emergency phone number at 410-313-2200.

Travel may still be dicey Wednesday afternoon.

"Icy roads are dangerous!" the Howard County Police Department reported. "Stay off the roads if you can. Delay your travel today until the temps warm up and ice starts to melt."

US Route 1 was closed at Kit Kat Road in Elkridge between 8 a.m. and noon after a crash.

"We had a few accidents during rush hour," Councilwoman Courtney Watson posted on Facebook. "Temps are rising and that should help. Looking forward to a couple of clear days ahead (before the next storm)."

Rain may taper off after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with temperatures climbing up to 40, according to the National Weather Service.

This weekend, the weather service showed snow in the forecast for Howard County.
