Weekend Events: Honey Harvest, Country Western Dinner Dance, Hispanic Festival

Looking for some exciting things to do this weekend? Check out some of the fun things going on around town.

 

Maryland Honey Harvest Festival
Where:  10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop, Laurel, Maryland 20708 
When: Saturday, September 15, 2012, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Why to go:  Discover the world of bees and other pollinators while enjoying arts and crafts, honey tastings, candle making demonstrations and more.

Cycle through Aviation History
Where:  1985 Cpl. Frank Scott Drive, College Park, Maryland 20740
When:  10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Why to go:  Learn about 250 years of flight in a guided bicycle tour along the Anacostia River trails.
 The ride will be a flat 10 mile loop with snacks provided; some riding on quiet streets, but mostly off-road, paved trails.
Bring your bicycle and helmet. Persons 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Participant must register through SMARTlink, barcode #961715.
Pricing: $2.00 for Residents / $3.00 for Non-Residents

West Virginia vs. James Madison Football
Where: 1600 Raljon Rd, Landover, Maryland 20785
When: Saturday, September 15, 2012, Kickoff at 4:30 p.m.
Description:  The West Virginia-James Madison game will be played at FedExField on "Sam Huff Day," honoring the legendary Redskins linebacker and former Mountaineer.

Hispanic Festival
Where:  601 West Park Dr. & University Blvd., Adelphi, Maryland 20783 
When:  Sunday, September 16, 2012, 12:00 noon – 6:00 p.m.
Description:   Festival to celebrate the heritage of Hispanic communities. Festival includes carnival games, crafts to make, music, entertainment, ethnic food, displays/exhibitors, crafts for sale, face painting, pony rides, and more.
Bring a chair or a blanket.

Where:  , 6101 Cherrywood Ln, Greenbelt,MD 
When:  Saturday, September 15, 2012, 10:00 a.m.
Description:   Training practuces take place Monday (6:30 pm – 8:30 pm), Wednesday (6:30 pm – 8:30 pm) and Saturday (10:00 am – 2:00 pm) for ages 6 to adult. No experience necessary. Registration and monthly fee to join. See how you like it at a trial practice.

Description:  32-mile, moderately paced ride that emphasizes group riding techniques.

Why to go:  Learn about the history of the monastery, the gardens and the friars who designed them, and the outdoor shrines from the Holy Land, Lourdes and other places.

29th Annual Maryland Wine Festival
Where:  Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster, MD , 21157
When:  Saturday, September 15, 2012: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. / Sunday, September 16, 2012: 12:00 noon – 6:00 p.m.
Description:  29th Annual Maryland Wine Festival attractions include tastings from local vineyards, wine seminars, food from local restaurants, artisans and craft vendors, and lots of live music.
Pricing: Adults (21+): $27-$62, Designated drivers: $20, Children (13-20): $20
