Since 2002, which was its 75th anniversary, the chain has been giving away complimentary drinks on July 11, according to a press release. It is also the biggest month for Slurpee sales, said the release.

“Giving away free Slurpee beverages is our way of thanking customers for their patronage throughout the year and showing appreciation for their support,” said Jesus Delgado-Jenkins, a senior vice president for 7-Eleven. "What better drink for the hottest month of the year.”
