Deerfield Run Principal Says Goodbye

It's the end of the road for Deerfield Elementary School Principal Thomas Tucker, who is set to hang up his hat this month and retire after 19 years.

According to The Gazette, Tucker hopes to now serve as a mentor to school principals throughout the school district. But faculty and students said they will remember Tucker as a tireless instructor and administrator.

Is Whiskey Bottom Road a Danger Zone?

Residents in North Laurel are urging Howard County officials to take action to improve safety along Whiskey Bottom Road near its Route 1 intersection.

According to the Laurel Leader, county officials met with a group of about 30 concerned residents May 25 to discuss widespread traffic and safety concerns about the two-lane road. Residents complained of speeding motorists and truck drivers plowing down the roadway, ignoring the 30-mile-per hour speed limit. On two occasions, cars ran into a residence that abuts the roadway.

The Leader reports that residents believe the narrow roadway, which in most areas has no shoulder and has only one posted speed limit sign, is inadequately designed and hazardous to everyone, especially pedestrians who will be walking to the new  North Laurel Community Center, located in the 9400 block, which opened on Friday.
