Here's what's been happening around town this past week.

Flash Mob Converges on Walmart

Did anyone else notice a large mob of Aretha Franklin-inspired protesters converging in the aisles of the Laurel Walmart last week?

Respect DC, a local workers rights group, has a bone to pick with Walmart as it is expanding in the Washington, D.C. region. The group organized a flash mob of over 100 people who ran into the store Thursday and performed an impromptu rendition of "Respect."

Laurel Boys and Girls Club Charter School To Include Girls

The Laurel Boys and Girls Club has decided to allow girls admission to its impending

The Laurel Leader is reporting that the school, Laurel Prep, will now admit girls in addition to boys. Officials at the school hope to have it operational by 2013 pending its approval by the Prince George's County Board of Education.

Laurel Relocates Speed Cameras

Two speed cameras along, one originally near 7th Street, have been relocated by the City of Laurel.

Mayor Craig A. Moe and Police Chief Richard McLaughlin announced that two speed cameras have been relocated last week. The new locations for the speed cameras are Van Dusen Road, northbound between Laurel Park Drive and Olive Branch and on Sandy Spring Road near Phillip Powers Drive.
