Hundreds turn out for Main Street Festival

The Laurel Main Street Fair brought out hundreds of people of all ages on Sat., May 7. Parade-goers descended onto Main Street in the early morning hours to pick the perfect spot among the many vendors that lined the parade route.

The parade started without delay, and after its conclusion, many spectators enjoyed an array of different vendors from Sweet Charlie Handmade Soap to the Caribbean taste of Aunt Susan’s Kitchen.

 Laurel Arts District Gaining Momentum

Could C Street in Laurel be the city's next arts district?

According to The Gazette, owners and patrons of the C Street Gallery are pushing for the area to be an arts destination for the Laurel area.

In March, the city council passed a unified land development code—a streamlined version of the city's zoning regulations that would allow arts and entertainment venues to open in the area without additional zoning requirements—to help speed up the effort. The code goes into effect July 1, The Gazette reports.

The district would overlap with parts of the historic district and include Main, C and B Streets, Avondale Street, Tolson Alley and Municipal Square.  Click here to read more.
