What do Immanuel Kant and Ginger Beer Have in Common? Find Out on Best of Blogs

A brazen mid-day robbery at Columbia’s mall has people talking about whether linking more public transit to Columbia from Baltimore and D.C. could make such incidents more frequent, writes Columbia’s Sarah Husain on her blog, Sarahsays.com. Sarah argues against this idea. “I get that there's a stigma around people who use public transit,” she writes. “But we need to remember that they are just that--people. Just like in any town, there are a whole lot of law-abiding people and a small element of people who commit crimes.”

If you are in the mood to relive your college years, you should visit Retriever Believers, a blog where several UMBC students post about their daily lives. Contributors confess to taking midday naps, blowing tests, and, on a rare day, you might find them quoting the philosopher Immanuel  Kant.

Elizabeth Bastos (also a contributor to Owings Mills Patch) writes a post on her blog, Goody Bastos, about her efforts to “fake” being a good mom, which she calls “ImpostaMom.” ImpostaMom  “is walking, talking fakery,” she writes, “well meaning fakery of course, designed to make ourselves feel superior about our care of our children compared to those ‘bad moms’ (that we are not like) that yell and demand … ‘just because we said so,’ but it is still fake, fake, fake as store-bought cupcakes.”

Former Laurel City councilman Rick Wilson posts a picture on his blog, Laurel Connections, of vandalism against controversial speed cameras. Someone recently painted over one such device on a road in Laurel. Wilson writes that, while on the council, speeding was the top complaint he heard from citizens. He hopes the vandal is caught.

Amy Monteith, an artist in Savage chronicles on her blog, “Chronicles of Jefita,” an adventure recently in making ginger beer.

Carroll County Times writer Jim Lee blogs about parenting his twins on BabyX2. In a recent post, he shares one of the most perplexing aspects of parenting, the Catch 22: “Spend all your efforts helping them grow to become independent, but long in your heart for them to always remain that small bundle of joy you brought home the hospital who depended on you for absolutely everything.”

Finally, Laurel lactation consultant Amber McCann (who is also a contributor to Laurel Patch) recently shared a touching list of 100 things she loves, in no particular order.
