"I hate it," said Robin Kinney, of Laurel. Kinney hopes the garden plants she transplanted in the warm weather will survive the recent snow.

"It's not normal in that people like it," said Tryphenia Ellis-Johnson, of Laurel, "but it's normal."

Ellis-Johnson said she has lived in the region her whole life, and the periods between seasons are not actually as sporadic as some people make them out to be.
