The Saxony-Anhalt Brass Ensemble was founded in 1992 in East Germany shortly after the German reunification. The original members were principal brass players from the four Central German orchestras – the Magdeburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Halle, and the Harz and Anhalt Theatre Orchestras. Later the ensemble was joined by musicians from the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Weimar and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble has become well known in Germany through numerous concerts at Festivals and in concert halls. The brilliant playing of the ensemble represents the rich musical tradition of Saxony-Anhalt, a region well known for the music of great composers such as Bach, Händel, and Telemann.
