CookieRide Brings Cookies to Columbians

Local business bakes, sells and delivers fresh cookies in Columbia.

Local Columbia resident Casey Dyson wants to sell you a gourmet cookie from her scooter.

Dyson is the self-described sassy, scooter-driving owner of CookieRide, a roving cookie catering business. She started the business about eight weeks ago by selling her homemade cookies at Lake Kittamaqundi, office parks and outdoor pools.

"I was inspired by the cupcake trucks in D.C. and Baltimore," said Dyson. "I investigated getting started in that direction, but I wanted something more environmentally friendly than a truck, so I went with a scooter."

Dyson said she has been baking cookies for 15 to 20 years now and had long dreamed of opening up her own baking or cookie business. Prior to starting CookieRide, Dyson said she worked for about three years at Touché Touchet, a gourmet bakery in Columbia.

Dyson sells her cookies for about $2 individually, but is also able to do bulk deliveries to events if she knows ahead of time. She said she can fit about 60 cookies on her red Genuine Scooter Company scooter, which she has tricked out with a basket on the front and a top case on the back for more cargo space. She said she makes all the cookies at her home in Columbia.

Dyson updates her location daily on Facebook and Twitter to let people know where they can pick up cookies. She currently offers caramel pecan, sugar, peanut butter, pumpkin and her (best-selling) chocolate chip cookies.

As for how she's going to handle winter on the scooter, Dyson said, "I don't have any grand plans to drive the scooter in winter, although I do love snow."

"I can do deliveries in my car and I hope to also set up some holiday cookie parties," added Dyson.
