Speak Out: Will You Boycott Denny's, Applebees and Papa John's?

The franchise owners of these popular chains are making big changes to offset costs of Obamacare, but it's causing some customers to rethink which businesses they'll support.

Several franchise owners of popular restaurant chains say that the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare will increase costs for small business owners—and in order to offset costs they are adding surcharges to bills, threatening layoffs and more.

According to the Huffington Post, John Metz, a Florida-based Denny's franchise owner, is adding a 5 percent surcharge to customers' bills to offset costs for healthcare.

Apple-Metro CEO Zane Tankel, who owns more than 40 Applebee's chains in the metro New York area, slammed Obamacare on Fox Business Network, Huffington Post reported, stating he would not hire any more employees and may cut the hours of current employees.

But a Twitter campaign has already begun against Papa John's after CEO John Schnatter’s said the chain would increase prices to offset costs related to the  Affordable Care Act. Protestors are asking Americans to support local pizza chains over Papa John's.

So what do you think? Will you boycott these businesses for their actions against employees and customers? Or you think that small business owners are suffering due to Obamacare? Tell us in the comments.

Michael you need to look up boycotts in your American History books. Boycotts help people. The CEO doesn't want to pay his employees insurance & keeps their hrs low so he doesn't have to give them benefits as they are considered part-time. He also is the one that advertises constantly that he is going to give away 2 million pizzas this year. If he can give away millions of pizzas and lives in a 40,000 sq ft mansion with a 22-car garage, I hope he does go out of business & other pizza places will hire & provide insurance.
Janet (Gram) Johnson November 19, 2012 at 01:26 AM
rich, lol. Yes, poor ole Papa John's CEO John Schnatter might have to give up his 40,000 sq. ft. mansion with a 22-car garage. How sad. And he might have to quit bragging that he gives away 2 million pizzas each year.

I am for one will not boycott any business that tells the truth, what did people think was going to happen? When gasoline goes up, so does food pricing, when there is a rise in corn prices everything goes up, these businesses are just telling the reason prices will be going up, every business is going to do this, too all of you that think it is greed, go open your own company and do it your way, if you think the 5% on a pizza is something wait till you see what is going to happen to your healthcare, thanks to the last election Thanksgiving, will now be renamed Thankstaking.

When business owners live in absurd wealth while their employees--the ones who do the cement pounding labor while smiling and taking care of customers can't afford basic medical needs of family...and live meagerly to basic modestly, there is a huge problem. The problem is not Obama. It is greed. It is lack of morals. That the laws are even an issue to these companies should be the embarassing issue to these owners. Count me in with the boycotts.

Disgusting what Denny's and Papa Johns have threatened to do to their workers. These CEOs have made huge profits off the backs of their minimum wage employees. These are cruel people and a very sad sign of the selfish times we live in. The elite categorize the rest as "moochers" in a very transparent attempt to grab all they can, regardless to what's actually earned and fair to those who work hard for these bastard companies and ask only a fair shake in return. I don't wish to see our country revert to a lopssided, medieval value system... Count me in to boycott these awful companies and all who choose to stand against fairness and decency in business.
Janet (Gram) Johnson November 22, 2012 at 01:34 AM
Guess the bottom line is being threatened. CEO's have decided, since their business is already falling off, that maybe they shouldn't be threatening their workers and have called off their threats! Yes, we won. For those who thought we were crazy for boycotting.................................smile!!!!
bob jones November 22, 2012 at 04:54 AM
I will be patronizing them. It's about time that people stand up against communism in this country! And yes, they are capitalists. We are a capitalist country, last time I checked. If you don't like it, go somewhere else instead of voting in communist presidents!!!
Janet (Gram) Johnson November 22, 2012 at 04:25 PM
Bob Jones You can patronize any place u want to. If u think it is communism to stand up for workers' rights, maybe u should move to a communist country & wake up. Anyway, Americans stood up for what was right & the rich backed down as soon as they found out their childish acts were affecting their bottom line. They back down and apologized. smile
bob jones November 23, 2012 at 05:23 PM
I have lived in a communist country and believe me, it sucks- that is why I am against America going down that road as our political leaders are currently taking us. You think that you have a right to health care- that is a communist brainwashing. You have to work for health care. And for all wages. That's the way that capitalism works. And that is why we have liberty from the government. When the government gives you everything, they also control everything. I'm sure if you want to be fat and lazy and sit on your butt all day long watching TV, you wouldn't mind that!
Janet (Gram) Johnson November 23, 2012 at 06:01 PM
The Gov't doesn't give me healthcare - we pay for it. Apparently bob jones hasn't even read about Obamacare or anything to do with it. If u lived in a communist country & u think that's what our country is doing, u do have a problem - a serious problem. The Gov't hasn't give me anything. When I rec'd money from the Gov't it was because I worked for Dept of Defense for 26 yrs. duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh You need to take a course in American History and Economics.

Well then. How about business tell the truth that they want their welfare in the form of tax relief. Now thats Thanksgimmy!.Fuckin bums. They don't want to pay a living wage or healthcare. And call people underclass bums. Then they need to pay taxes. As far as price increases go wages should go up to. Cost of living or no one will be able to buy the unhealthy shit they sell. But that may be good in a way.People will be healthier. This boycott will make for a healthier country.Thank god for the change that has come..
Eddie Eger December 08, 2012 at 04:20 AM

Eddie Eger December 08, 2012 at 04:32 AM
These CEOS Need to also pay Higher taxes to help off set the cost of their employees.Anyway ya look at it they will pay in the end. These CEOs want everything their way. But won't get it this time. They call everyone out here underclass bums.I see them as rich wanting their welfare in the form of tax relief. So if they can't afford healthcare for the employees.Let them pay high taxes..
bob jones December 09, 2012 at 05:16 PM
It is not the government's job to take wealth from the wealthy and redistribute it to others. that's called marxism. Apparently you have all been drinking the liberal kool-aid for way too long. The government's job in taxation is to use the money to provide for the well-being of the nation. Our government has gone far, far beyond that. And don't try to make an issue of religious freedom (companies who are being forced to pay for abominable practices like abortion drugs) into an issue of rich CEOs. You are changing the subject!!!
bob jones December 09, 2012 at 05:21 PM
You will agree with anything President Obama does, including forcing the strongest marxist, anti-Christian efforts on America in history (just look at his endorsement of homosexuality, the democratic convention voting NO to have God in their party line, forcing taxpayer funded abortion, and obamacare which forces employer funded abortion, among, many, many other things that he has done. Why are you such a strong supporter even though he goes against many of the things that are beyond a modicum of decency? Because the only alternative is a rich white male? Why don't you support neither and call them for what they are? Because you are racist, and you are proud of it and unapologetic for it. So don't go around telling me that you have a moral reason for your economic cause!!!
Janet (Gram) Johnson December 09, 2012 at 05:32 PM
bob jones - I feel so sorry for you. You are a typical right-winger that thinks everyone is out of step except you. You can "believe" what you want and call names all you want, but it doesn't mean you are right. You really need to read up on what President Obama and the ones that voted for him actually believe, instead of spewing stuff you saw on FauxNews. Who knows, you might learn something. Just because you continue to spew the lies doesn't mean anyone with a brain believes you.
No name Denny's Employee January 01, 2013 at 05:35 AM
I work for Denny's. They told us that they are cutting everyone's hours so we will be under 28 hours a week. Just so they wont have to pay for Obamacare. I can't afford my bills as it is and now Im losing my hours at work.
bob jones January 03, 2013 at 03:41 AM
I know, I'm with you, they hate white people at my Dennys. I will not go back.
James Smith January 05, 2013 at 07:55 PM
Janet, you are a blind fool! I hope you reap what you sow! A suffer what you have done!
James Smith January 05, 2013 at 07:57 PM
"No Name Denny's Employee" Did you vote for Hussein Obama?
FIVELIGHTS January 09, 2013 at 09:52 PM
fivelights This is what occupy Wall Street is all about. Because of Obama Care. Papa Johns is going to go from a 1.4 billion dollars annual revenue to 1.2 billion in annual revenue. So we must now panic and cut hours and raise our prices because, God forbid we drop to 1.2 billion. You know how much that affects my bonus. SMH
Shyla Wright February 08, 2013 at 10:18 PM
So sad that any business or individual needs to pay more taxes :(. Times are tough but obviously above government employees are exempt :-/
Shyla Wright February 08, 2013 at 10:35 PM
Funny, how folks don't boycott airlines or the local garbage/rubbish company for raising cost or added fees. I also noticed that some folks bash Fox News but can't explain why they call it "faux or fake" news. Just because your president said it doesn't make FOX News anymore fake or faux then NBC, ABC or CNN. Watch CNN or FOX because the reporting is newsworthy not because someone else like your neighbor, president or kids don't like it.
Janet (Gram) Johnson February 09, 2013 at 12:16 AM
I haven't heard "our" President say anything about not watching FauxNews. I don't watch it because I use to watch it and they kept feeding lies instead of news. It would not matter what President Obama did or did not do,they would dream up some kind of conspiracy plan or just flat out lie about it. If you watch FauxNews & then watch any other news you will see what I'm talking about; but, more than likely, if you are a right-winger or tea potter, you will still side with FauxNews. smile
Speaking Frankly February 14, 2013 at 05:19 PM
I could go for some Papa Johns right about now. :) Quit forcing shit on people and there won't be none.
