Albert W. Turner Honored with Doctors Community Hospital's "A Passion for Caring Award"

On Saturday, November 2, Albert W. Turner was honored at Doctors Community Hospital’s 21st annual gala.  With this year’s theme being “An Evening under the Stars,” this philanthropic event raised funds for the renovation of the hospital’s surgical services suite. Turner received the “A Passion for Caring Award” in recognition for his long-standing contributions to the community.

A native resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, Albert W. Turner built his first 75 single-family homes at age 21.  After serving three years in the Navy during WWII, Turner returned to Maryland and built an additional 125 homes in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.  In 1949, he launched MCD Enterprises, which focused on developing residential communities throughout Maryland.

About the “A Passion for Caring Award”

Doctors Community Hospital was founded by leading physicians.  With a shared goal of ensuring that Prince George’s County residents had convenient access to comprehensive and high-quality healthcare services, these dedicated individuals launched a premier hospital – one that touched the lives of 51,797 emergency room patients, 11,509 surgical services patients and 10,857 inpatients in fiscal year 2013.

The annual “A Passion for Caring Award” was created to honor an individual who or organization that positively impacts the residents of Prince George's County and the region.  Whether providing years of medical services that improve the quality of people’s lives, volunteering to educate people about making well-educated healthcare decisions or strengthening the fabric of the community, this honoree is an inspiration for others.
