Howard County Firefighters To Wear Pink

Members of the Howard County Professional Fire Fighters will wear a pink breast cancer shirt in October.

Howard County fire fighters this month will put away their normal blue duty shirt and instead wear a pink shirt in support of breast cancer awareness.

, who in conjunction with the International Association of Fire Fighters, will be shining the spotlight on breast cancer awareness for the second year in a row.

The demonstration also includes a fundraising effort—t-shirts are also available for purchase.

“This is personal for us,” said Fire Chief William Goddard. “We each know someone, even members of our own department, who have had a bout with cancer or whose families have battled breast cancer. This initiative gives us a visible opportunity to shed light on this deadly disease.”

The money from this initiative will go to support The Red Devils, a nonprofit that helps breast cancer patients and families in Maryland.

Last year, Local 2000 raised more than $12,000 to benefit families struggling with the burden of unexpected costs associated with the disease.
