Overturned Car Shuts Down B-W Parkway Outside Laurel

It took about 40 minutes to remove two victims from the vehicle.

The Baltimore-Washington Parkway was closed in the southbound direction Tuesday morning due to a crash near MD Route 198 (Fort Meade Road). 

Division Chief Keith Swindle, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said crews responded at about 6:15 a.m. to find a car that had overturned on an embankment. 

Two people were trapped in the vehicle, and it took about 40 minutes to extricate them.

The fire department transported a man, approximately 49 years old, to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Authorities also transported a woman, approximately 22 years old, to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with minor injuriess.

Two other people involved in the accident refused treatment.

Swindle said it was still unclear how many total cars were involved in the crash.
