Report: Osama Bin Laden Dead

President Obama announces to the nation that Al-Qaida head Osama bin Laden is dead.

UPDATED 11:42 p.m.

Osama bin Laden has been killed, according to reports on the major U.S. networks. President Obama was scheduled to address the nation to make the announcement, according to reports.

Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., was said to have been shot while in a remote region of Pakistan and his body is reported to be in U.S. hands, according to CBS News. CNN quoted a senior U.S. official as saying that U.S. forces killed bin Laden in a mansion outside Islamabad.

"I can report to the American people and the world that the United States has conducted an operation that has killed Osama bin Laden," President Obama said in an address to the nation Sunday night. "...The American people did not choose this fight, it came to our front door."

Obama said that he had made catching Bin Laden the top priority of his war in terror.  On Sunday, he gave an order for U.S. forces to attack Bin Laden in a compound deep within Pakistan, where he had been hiding.
