Volunteers Needed to Remove 'Space Invaders' Near Patuxent River

WSSC wants to weed out invasive plants that are crowding out native wildlife.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is looking for volunteers to help remove invasive weeds from the banks of the Patuxent River in North Laurel and West Laurel.

The "space invaders" include plants like oriental bittersweet, Japanese honeysuckle, and kudzu, which can crowd out wildlife that lives near the river.

Participants are asked to join WSSC officials between 9 a.m. and noon on one (or both) of two dates: Saturday, July 13 and Saturday, July 20.
