FREE Event - WAPF Conference Video Viewing + Discussion

We are gathering to watch conference video recordings from the Weston A Price 2013 Conference!  The Weston A Price Foundation (WAPF), out of DC, is committed to teaching and spreading the message of REAL, nutrient-dense, traditional foods.  This is the conference that I attended in 2010 that sparked my food lifestyle transition to REAL food!

We will spend this evening watching these 2 presentations:

  • The Keynote Address of the Conference: "Exploring the Gut-brain Axis in Childhood Developmental Disorders" by Andrew Wakefield, MD.  This presentation will describe the evidence for pathological and functional changes in the intestine of children on the autism spectrum with gastrointestinal symptoms. The mechanism and causes of this injury and how it might lead to neurological dysfunction will be discussed. Opportunities for treating and preventing the disease and its consequences will be set out as a basis for further research.
  • "Making Sense Out of Fiber Nonsense" by Konstantin Monastyrsky.  The mainstream acceptance of dietary fiber is quite recent. The "dietary fiber hypothesis" was accepted as a major addition to nutrition by the 1980s. Since then fiber has become a preeminent health food, even though there isn't a single other non-nutrient - not alcohol, not artificial sweeteners, not even MSG - with as many well-known side effects as fiber. So what gives? Monastyrsky will enumerate all the known connections between the consumption of fiber and major colorectal disorders, such as IBS, colitis, Crohn's disease, and colon cancer.

Discussion and good conversation to follow!

Event facilitated by Gina Rieg, WAPF Chapter Leader for Columbia, MD.
