States that have legalized cannabis have struck a gold mine in revenue and will reduce the prison population along with the revenue that has to maintain their prisons. I do have a theory as to why the push back on allowing cannabis to be legal. The pharmaceutical industry does not want the competition. In Colorado the hemp industry has made serious breakthroughs with regards to children and adults who have seizures. If you add the millions that rely on pain medications, this would take a big toll on the pharmaceutical bottom line and shareholders would have to look elsewhere for investments. Clothing products would have a new line as well as the reduction in corn prices due to the yield increase for bio fuel because weed can be used as fuel. In the end the argument is not about health, for if it were. We would have no cigarettes or alcohol. The need to raise taxes would not need to be an option for programs the Maryland citizens want because of an increase of revenue because of weed. Thus many shortages to fill the gap such as health care for the elderly, training for a new generation of doctors, nurses, and teachers could come into play. Jobs still could still require a no drug policy because of insurance rates. The oh lets worry about the kids crowd can be dealt with increase penalties to include jail time if a vender sales weed to a minor and I would alcohol to that also. I do not smoke the crap let alone drink alcohol. But being this country had agreed to trade deals that have plundered the middle class, we have to figure out a new stream of revenue because increasing taxes is no longer an option. We should have curfews for minors, but that is another argument for another day.
