Maryland Disabled Vets get the shaft in housing my Letter to the American Legion

I am a disabled vet in the State of Maryland my doctor at the VA said I had to stop working. So I submitted for an increase and also submitted for 100% because I am no longer able to work and I also put in for SSD I have a lawyer working for me to get SSD. My wife and I currently live with my daughter and son n law we watch the grand kids. My wife is also on social security. While I am waiting for the VA and SSD I have been doing some research for housing for disabled vets. Someone told me you can get on post housing if you are a disabled vet. Not to be rude but allot of times people will tell you something and they have no clue as to what they are saying. So, I called up housing at Ft. Meade Maryland to get the facts. What I found out was the following. Military housing is for active duty active guard and reserves. Not only that if you work for DOD and if you are retired military you can live at on post housing. But if you are a disabled vet let alone a 100% disabled vet you cannot live on post housing. I contacted my Senator and also e mailed her and stated that if they do not allow disabled vets to live at on post military housing then those who are retired and work for DOD must vacate the housing property. It is bad enough that the congress has sat on the funding for the VA and short changed the VA with the staff that is needed for the veteran population. It is worse that disabled vet that cannot afford their own place to live is thrown under the bus for DOD workers and retired vets who have no disability have a pension and a full time job. I ask that the leaders of the American Legion ask as to why there is this treatment to the disabled vets when it comes to housing.
