Armed Robbery Puts Laurel High School on Lockdown

One student robbed another before fleeing, authorities said, leading to a brief manhunt.

At least one student was arrested and another sent to the hospital Thursday following an armed robbery near Laurel High School, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 8000 block of Cherry Lane, according to City of Laurel spokesman Pete Piringer.

Piringer said that a male student was confronted by someone wielding what appeared to be a handgun. Though no shots were fired, the victim sustained some minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Word of the robbery sent Laurel police on a search of the area and put nearby LHS on lockdown, Piringer said, though most students had already gone home for the day.

A large police presence was called in, including K9 units and aerial support from the Maryland State Police.

Authorities tracked two suspects—one male, one female—through the nearby woods, according to Piringer. Both were taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. in the 8100 block of Londonderry Court.

Following the arrest, Laurel police recovered valuables belonging to the victim and a pellet gun linked to the arrested male, Piringer said.

Charges are pending against the male suspect, who was also said to be a student at LHS. Neither suspect's name has been released.
