Army Wife Charged in Stabbing Death of Husband in Laurel

Police have identified the victim as Johnnie Sutton, III, a member of the United States Army.

Police have charged the wife of a member of the Armed Services with second-degree murder after he was stabbed multiple times in the chest in a Laurel home.

Anne Arundel County police charged Marquita Berry-Sutton, 30, in the death of her husband, Johnnie Sutton III, 38, a member of the United States Army, according to a police report.

Police found Sutton dead at his home on Frostwood Road in Laurel Friday at about 10:30 a.m.. He suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest, police said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later ruled that he died by sharp force trauma. 

Berry-Sutton surrendered to authorities Saturday, according to police. She has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

The couple's 21-month-old child was present at the time of the incident, but was not injured, police said. The child is now in the custody of relatives.
