Birdwatchers Find Human Skull in Laurel-Area Woods

The cause of death is still unknown, police said.

Authorities say human remains were discovered Sunday in the woods near Spring Road and Whiskey Bottom Road in Maryland City.

According to Anne Arundel County Police, a man contacted police around noon to report that he and his girlfriend had found what appeared to be a human skull while birdwatching.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, and the remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

Police said the medical examiner has confirmed that the remains are human, but the cause of death is still undetermined.
