Laurel Crime: Police Conduct Drug Raid, Driver Asleep at Light Given DUI

A rundown of notable incidents from March 30-April 5.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from March 30 to April 5, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Sunday, March 31

THEFT, 14300-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 12:54 p.m.: A patron of a local restaurant informed officers that he believed an employee had stolen his wallet from the table. Upon further investigation, officers located the wallet contained within the employee’s vehicle. A 57-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested for theft under $100.

WARRANT, 15100-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 10:07 p.m.: Officers responded to a local bar for a reported disorderly subject. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 42-year-old suspect who was found to have an open arrest warrant. He was subsequently arrested.

Monday, April 1

MARIJUANA ARREST: 8400-BLK Cherry Lane, 11:56 a.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle and contacted the 22-year-old male driver. The stop led to a search of the vehicle which yielded the discovery of marijuana. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana under 10 grams.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT: 900-BLK Nichols Drive, 9:53 p.m.: officers responded to a residence for a reported domestic assault. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 19-year-old woman who was reportedly physically fighting her father. After further investigation, she was placed under arrest and charged with assault in the 2nd degree.

Tuesday, April 2

ARREST: 14100-blk Baltimore Ave, 7:49 a.m.: officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The 42-year-old driver was found to have a suspended license and an open warrant.

ARREST: 811 Fifth St, 11:58 a.m.: A 48-year-old man came into the Laurel Police Department. He was found to have an open warrant and was subsequently arrested.

ARREST: 22 Main St, 10:47 p.m.: Officers observed a 45-year-old man consuming alcohol in public at the Laurel Train Station. He was subsequently arrested.

BURGLARY ARRESTS: 14740 Fourth St, 12:08 a.m.: Officers responded to a vacant apartment where it was believed multiple juveniles had gained entry. officers located 7 juveniles and 19-year-old male inside the vacant apartment. All 8 subjects were arrested and charged with trespassing, burglary and malicious destruction of property.

Wednesday, April 3

DRUG ARREST: 800-blk Talbott Ave, 9:52 p.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The 33-year-old male driver was arrested for possession of cocaine.

DUI ARREST: 900-blk Fifth St, 2:17 a.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The 57-year-old female driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Thursday, April 4

SHOPLIFTER, 13100-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 5:04 p.m.: Two juvenile shoplifters were arrested after stealing items from the Shopper’s Food Warehouse. They were charged with theft and released to guardians.

TRESPASSING, 15100-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 5:02 p.m.: The owner of the Eastern Wine and Beer called to report of two trespassers who were previously banned from the property. Two suspects, 51 and 53 years old, were both located nearby drinking in public and were arrested.

Friday, April 5

RAID, 800-BLK Fourth Street, 10:03 p.m.: Members of the Emergency Response Team and Special Crimes Unit executed a search and seizure warrant in the 800 block of Fourth Street. A large quantity of powdered cocaine was recovered. A 35-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with numerous drug offenses including possession with the intent to distribute.

DUI, 400-BLK Second Street, 1:02 a.m.: During a traffic stop, a 33-year-old driver was arrested after being found to be under the influence of alcohol.

DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, 100-BLK Washington Boulevard, 2:06 a.m.: During a traffic stop the officer located drug paraphernalia. The 29-year-old male drive was arrested before being issued a criminal citation. The driver was cited for not having a license.

DUI, 1-BLK Avondale Street, 2:52 a.m.: An officer on patrol observed an idling vehicle in the roadway with significant front end damage. The 33-year-old female driver was arrested for DUI.

DUI, 7900-BLK Gorman Avenue, 5:06 a.m.: A caller reported a vehicle with the driver asleep at the wheel that had sat through several cycles of the traffic light. The 31-year-old male driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
