City of Laurel Crime: Police Investigate Gun Threat, Vandals Shut off Power

A rundown of notable incidents from March 23-29.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from March 23-29, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Saturday, March 23

FIRE, 14500 Laurel Place (Empire Buffet), 11:46 a.m.: Officers located a fire to the rear of the Empire Buffet. The fire department responded to put out the fire, and a fire investigator was called to investigate. Any information on this fire please call (301) 498-0092. 

DUI ARREST, Washington Blvd at Gorman Ave, 1:12 a.m.: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The 39-year-old driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested. 

DRUG COMPLAINT, Clays Ln / West St, 1:46 a.m.: Officers responded to this area for the report of 3 subjects in the middle of the street stopping cars. Officers located a vial of Phencyclidine (PCP) on the ground near the subjects. All 3 subjects were identified. The PCP was placed into property to be destroyed. 

WARRANT ARREST, 314 Washington Blvd (Denny's), 3:53 a.m.: Officers made contact with a disorderly subject in the business. The 44-year-old man was found to have an open warrant through Frederick County Sheriffs Department. He was arrested without incident.

Sunday, March 24

DRUG ARREST: 100-Blk Lafayette Ave, 11:56 a.m.: An officer on patrol made contact with three individuals. Drug paraphernalia was located and a 20-year-old man was arrested. 

DUI ARREST: 500-Blk Seventh St, 11:52 p.m.: Officers responded to the scene of an accident. Once on scene officers smelled alcohol on one of the drivers. A 55-year-old man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Monday, March 25

WARRANT ARREST: 14800-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 2:46 p.m.: Officers contacted a man who was found to have an open arrest warrant through Montgomery County for burglary in the 1st degree. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest. 

BURGLARY, 14700-BLK 4th Street, 8:50 p.m.: Officers responded to a residence in which the victim stated that numerous electronic devices and United States currency was taken from within her home. Investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday, March 27

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Laurel Police received information from Anne Arundel County Police that an unknown subject called their 911 and reported he was taking a gun to school. There was no additional information given. One of the locations of possible origin of the call was within the City of Laurel. Police were sent there as well as to the city schools. Police went door to door in an effort to develop information. No suspects were found in any of the city schools.

Thursday, March 28

WARRANT ARREST, 9700-BLK Fort Meade Road, 9:50 a.m.: An officer made a traffic stop and found that the driver had an open warrant for failing to appear in court on other traffic charges. The 20-year-old driver was arrested.

BURGLARY ARRESTS, 14700-BLK Fourth Street, 10:46 p.m.: Three juveniles were arrested for vandalism and burglary at the Emerson Apartments on Fourth Street. The suspects forced entry into an electrical room on the first floor of one of the buildings and shut off the power in approximately 30-50 separate apartments. The juveniles fled the scene but were quickly caught and arrested.
