Close Call on Route 1

Accident near intersection of Route 1 and Cherry Lane nearly sends motorist into stream near Laurel Lake.

A motorist involved in an accident along the intersection of Route 1 and Cherry Lane this afternoon narrowly avoided running into a stream near Laurel Lake.

The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. today. According to witnesses, a black Toyota Camry traveling east bound on Cherry Lane ran a red light and struck another vehicle knocking it into a median along Cherry Lane.

The Camry, according to witnesses, veered off the road and slid down the embankment toward Bear Branch, a stream that feeds into Laurel Lake, but managed to stop feet before sliding in.

A worker from  store told Laurel Patch that no one appeared injured or required medical attention.

This story has been modified to correct an error that stated the vehicle was close to driving into Laurel Lake instead of Bear Branch.
