Fire Shuts Down WSSC Headquarters

A Sunday fire closes the WSSC headquarters in Laurel Monday.

Offices at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in Laurel will remain closed Monday due to a fire that damaged the building Sunday.

An electrical fire has closed the main headquarters building on Sweitzer Lane in Laurel. The building will be closed Monday, due to a loss of power, to all customers coming to the Sweitzer Lane facility to do business. Only emergency and essential personnel assigned to work at the main headquarters will report there. While the main headquarters building is closed, all other WSSC facilities, including water and sewer facilities and depots, are open.

Officials said the fire has not affected normal water and sewer operations and WSSC has initiated emergency procedures.
