Five People Hospitalized After Route 1 Crash

Three adults and two juveniles were being treated after a collision that shut down Washington Boulevard at Montevideo Road Wednesday.

Five people were hospitalized and all lanes of Washington Boulevard shut down Wednesday afternoon following a crash in Elkridge that police said may have involved alcohol.

Khisha Parks, 36, of Columbia was driving a Land Rover on Route 1 that struck two vehicles between Waterloo and Montevideo roads before coming to a stop at approximately 4 p.m., according to Howard County police.

Parks was traveling northbound on Washington Boulevard when her vehicle hit the passenger side mirror of a Chrysler north of MD Route 175, said police.

After passing through the Montevideo Road intersection headed north, police said the Land Rover crossed over the yellow line into southbound traffic on Route 1. The vehicle struck a guardrail and then collided head-on with an Infiniti.

Parks and front-seat passenger Bernard Alexander, 31, of Laurel were in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said police.

Two children who had been in the back seat of the Land Rover were in stable condition at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, reported police.

Police said the driver of the Infiniti—Enoch Webb, 61, of Gwynn Oak—was in stable condition at Howard County General Hospital.

No information was available about the driver of the Chrysler.

Police said that alcohol and crossing the double line were factors in the collision.

Route 1 was closed between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Montevideo Road intersection as a result of the crash.
