Got Old Prescription Drugs? Drop Them Off!

The DEA is teaming with local law enforcement to remove unused prescription medications from circulation.

Wondering what to do with all those old, unwanted prescription drugs rattling around in the medicine chest?

Drop them off this Saturday, April 28, during the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Anyone with unused or expired prescription medications can bring their drugs to any of the dozens of drop off locations for safe and proper disposal.  Drop off sites are being coordinated on the ground by local law enforcement.

This weekend’s event is the fourth Drug Take-Back Day conducted by the DEA. In the three previous events, the DEA, along with local law enforcement, collected and disposed of more than 995,185 pounds of medication across the country.

“The amount of prescription drugs turned in by the American public during the past three Take-Back Day events speaks volumes about the need to develop a convenient way to rid homes of unwanted or expired prescription drugs,” said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart. “DEA remains hard at work to establish just such a drug disposal process, and will continue to offer take-back opportunities until the proper regulations are in place.”
