UPDATE: False Alarm in Laurel
Laurel Police said 'gunshot' sounds were actually fireworks coming from a home near Main Street.
UPDATED 6:05 p.m.
Sounds like gunshots heard near Main Street in Laurel were actually fireworks, according to Laurel Police.
Police are now saying that the shots heard were actually fireworks coming from a home along Prince George Street. Residents and witnessess from the nearby PNC Bank mistakenly reported hearing gunfire and seeing a man with a smoking gun. But when police searched the home, they found only an elderly woman and her caregiver.

SWAT teams from Prince George's County and Greenbelt had been on the scene assisting Laurel Police during the investigation. Residents said Old Town Laurel was flooded with cruisers while police closed off Prince George Street to search the home.

Laurel police were on the scene of a reported home barricade after shots were reportedly fired inside a residence near the intersection of Fourth Street and Prince George Street.
The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m., with police still responding to the scene. Police activity could be seen on Main Street and near Laurel Elementary on Montgomery Street.
Laurel residents took to Facebook describing a chaotic scene near Main Street.
"I live on Montgomery and there are cops everywhere, swat team, heavy artillery trucks. Its very scary! Hope everyone is okay," said one reader on the Laurel Patch Facebook wall.
