Late Night Fire Breaks Out In Laurel

Friday night fire sweeps through Steward Manor Apartments and displaces 11 families.

A Friday night fire at an apartment complex in Laurel has left 11 families homeless, according to Prince George's County Fire/EMS.

The fire started sometime after 10 p.m. along the 100 block of Morris Drive at the Steward Manor Apartments.  Fire/EMS workers responded to calls for service, upon arrival they discovered fire showing from the 2nd floor of a three story flat roof, garden style apartment.  Workers were on the scene assisting  with management and the Red Cross to house 11 Families that are displaced  including 29 adults, 19 children,  and two infants from the building.

Fire Investigations was on the scene and indicates the cause as unattended candles.  The fire loss was placed at approximately $75,000 total for the structure and contents.  No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
