Laurel Crime: Drug Seizure at Holiday Inn Express, Dog Attack on Arbory Way

A rundown of notable incidents from April 6-12.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from April 6-12, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Sunday, April 7

ARSON, 100-BLK Irving Street, 7:02 a.m.: Officers responded to a call for a fire that had already been extinguished. The reporting party said the fire was set by several juveniles who fled the area. Prince George’s County Fire Investigators responded to the scene. Damage to the resident’s fence is estimated at $500.00.

Monday, April 8

SHOPLIFTER, 200-BLK Fort Meade Road, 7:52 p.m.: A 49-year-old male suspect was caught shoplifting at the Home Depot by store security. He was arrested and charged with theft.

Tuesday, April 9

SUSPICIOUS PERSON, 14400-BLK Laurel Place, 10:53 a.m.: Officers responded for a report of three suspicious persons inside of an RV. A 41-year-old man was arrested for drug paraphernalia. The vehicle and persons matched the description from an attempted child abduction that occurred in Prince George’s County. PGPD responded and notified their Detective Bureau with all of the information.

WARRANT ARREST, 7300-BLK Van Dusen Road, 6:10 p.m.: An officer made a traffic stop and discovered one of the occupants had an open warrant. The 25-year-old male was arrested. 

TRESPASSING, 15100-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 8:50 p.m.: An officer observed a suspicious person and identified them as having been banned from the property. The suspect was arrested for trespassing.

DRUG ARREST, 14400-BLK Laurel Place, 11:41 p.m.: Police responded to the Holiday Inn Express after complaints that guests smelled drugs coming from a room. Police recovered over $6,500 in cash, 130 grams of marijuana, 4 grams of crack cocaine, and 40 oxycodone pills. A 19-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with numerous drug offenses.

Thursday, April 11

SHOPLIFTER, 200-BLK Fort Meade Road, 8:08 p.m.: Officers responded to the Home Depot for a shoplifter. Store security had detained a 54-year-old man after he stolen items from the store. The suspect was charged with theft.

ANIMAL COMPLAINT, 15400-BLK Arbory Way, 9:57 p.m.: A large dog attacked another dog and then subsequently ran into the house of the victim dog and his owner. The residents vacated the house and called police for assistance. Officers arrived and found the dog reacting aggressively whenever an officer got near. Officers contained the animal until Animal Control arrived, who then removed the dog without further incident.
