Laurel Crime: Police Track LoJack Signal, Chase Shoplifting Suspects

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from April 27-30, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Tuesday, April 30

DRUG ARREST, 14900-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 5:15 p.m.: An Officer made a traffic stop and discovered that the driver had marijuana in her possession. The 43-year-old woman was arrested.

ASSAULT ARREST, 300-BLK Domer Avenue, 9:05 p.m.: A citizen reported several juveniles hanging outside waiting to assault another juvenile. Officers arrived and were able to investigate the incident further, leading to one juvenile arrest for assault. 

RECOVERED STOLEN AUTO, 600-BLK Lafayette Avenue, 10:56 p.m.: An officer driving a police cruiser equipped with a Lojack receiver picked up a signal of a stolen motorcycle near the 900 block of Montgomery Street around 9:00 p.m. Officers searched but were unable to trace the signal. Later that evening, Anne Arundel County Police picked up the Lojack signal of the same stolen motorcycle. They were able to stay with the signal and traced it to the area of the 600 block of Lafayette Avenue. LPD officers arrived to assist and they found the stolen motorcycle frame and parts inside a van on the property. The van and evidence were recovered. The investigation is continuing.

Monday, April 29

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER, 300-BLK Main Street, 4:01 p.m.: A caller reported that she had a protective order against a male suspect. She said the suspect was following her and beeping his car horn at her. Officers arrived and found the suspect, a 48-year-old man, who was arrested for violating the terms of the protective order. 

SHOPLIFTER, 14100-BLK Baltimore Avenue, 9:24 p.m.: A 31-year-old man was arrested for theft after attempting to steal several CDs from the Best Buy store.

Sunday, April 28

DUI, 8300-BLK Cherry Lane, 7:14 a.m.: A caller reported that a male was asleep behind the wheel, blocking traffic. Officers arrived and found that the driver, a 25-year-old man, was under the influence of alcohol. Yates was arrested. 

TRESPASSING, 14700-BLK Fourth Street, 3:51 p.m.: A property manager called and requested that several juveniles be banned from the property. The juveniles were located and ended up being arrested for trespassing. Another juvenile was found to be a reported runaway and was returned to a guardian. 

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, 7700-BLK Cypress Street, 12:34 a.m.: A citizen called after a male suspect tried to enter his home. The suspect was located and found to be intoxicated and not a resident of the home. He was placed under arrest.

Saturday, April 27

SHOPLIFTERS, 300-BLK Domer Avenue, 9:44 p.m.: Officers responded to Astor Liquor for a report of four juveniles stealing from the store. While checking the area, three out of the four juvenile suspects were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. 

DUI, 400-BLK Fourth Street, 2:51 a.m.: An Officer made a traffic stop and determined that the driver was under the influence. The 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses. 

DUI, 8300-BLK Cherry Lane, 5:02 a.m.: An Officer made a traffic stop and determined that the driver was under the influence. The 38-year-old suspect was arrested.
