Laurel Crime: Robbers Put Guns to Victim's Head, Dozing Driver Faces DUI Charge

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from June 15-21, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Saturday, June 15

  • ACCIDENT WITH INJURY | 300 Blk of Second St: Officers responded to the area for the report of an accident. Officer located a vehicle that had crashed into the side of a building in the area. The passenger and driver were transported to the hospital for treatment. 
  • DRUG ARREST | 14900 Blk of Baltimore Ave: Officers working off duty at Laurel Station made contact with a 29-year-old male. He was found to be in possession of PCP and arrested.
  • WARRANT ARREST | 14900 Blk of Baltimore Ave: Officers working off duty at Laurel Station made contact with a male subject who was found to have an open warrant. He was arrested.
  • DUI ARREST | VAN DUSEN RD: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 41-year-old woman, was found to be driving under the influence. She was charged with DUI and arrested.

  • BURGLARY | 900 Blk 5th Street: Officers on a foot patrol in the 900 block of 5th street heard loud banging sounds. Upon investigation, Officers observed an individual attempting to break into a residence through the window based air conditioning unit. The suspect, a 30-year-old man, fled on foot. Officers gave chase and were able to catch and arrest the suspect, who was charged with burglary.

Monday, June 17

  • DUI/REVOKED LICENSE ARREST | 14900-blk Bowie Rd: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 37-year-old woman, was found to have a suspended and revoked license. She was arrested and charged with DUI and driving on a suspended/revoked license.

  • ARMED ROBBERY | 15100-BLK Baltimore Avenue: A victim was outside of Azteca Restaurant when he was approached by two male suspects who both displayed handguns. One suspect placed a gun to the victim’s head, and the other suspect placed a gun to the victim’s neck. The suspects took the victim’s wallet, which contained $400.00. The victim wasn’t injured. Both suspects were described as tall, skinny black males wearing black clothing. Detectives responded and are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to call the Laurel Police at 301-498-0092.

Wednesday, June 19

  • ACCIDENT WITH INJURY | 900-BLK Gorman Avenue: Two vehicles collided, causing one to roll over and trap a female driver inside. The driver was freed by the Fire Department and transported to Shock Trauma via Maryland State Police helicopter. The driver is listed in stable condition at this time. Accident reconstructionists are investigating. 
  • WARRANT ARREST | 300-BLK Main Street: A 41-year-old male was arrested after officers learned he had an open warrant out for his arrest.

Friday, June 21

  • DUI ARREST | Baltimore Avenue at Cypress Street: An officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the driver—a 57-year-old male—was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested for DUI.
  • DUI ARREST | Sandy Spring Road at Van Dusen Road: An officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the driver—a 32-year-old male—was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested for DUI.

Saturday, June 22

  • SHOPLIFTING ARRESTS | 341 Montrose Avenue: Officers responded to Marshalls for a shoplifter. Two juveniles were arrested for shoplifting from the store. A short time later, officers were again called to Marshalls for another shoplifting report. A 35-year-old woman and her juvenile daughter were both arrested for shoplifting.
  • DUI/DRUG ARREST | Sandy Spring Road at Van Dusen Road: Officers observed a vehicle stopped at a traffic signal. The driver of the vehicle—a 36-year-old male—was passed out behind the wheel. He was arrested for DUI and also found to be in possession of Marijuana.
