Laurel Crime: Teen Assaults Ice Cream Driver, Robber Cuts Open Man's Jeans

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from May 26-June 1, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Sunday, May 26

ACCIDENT WITH INJURY ARREST | 9600 block of Fort Meade Rd.: A 21-year-old woman was arrested after she fled the scene of an accident resulting in injuries to one of the parties.

DUI ARREST | 300 block of Gorman Ave.: Officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested.

THEFT AND ASSAULT ARREST | 1000 block of Harrison Dr: Officers responded to Discovery Park after the driver of an ice cream truck reported that a subject had just stolen some ice cream and assaulted him. Officers located the suspect—a 16-year-old male—and he was subsequently arrested.

Monday, May 27

WARRANT ARREST | Fort Meade Rd. at Laurel Bowie Rd.: Officers made contact with a subject soliciting at the intersection. The subject, a 54-year-old man, was found to have an open warrant through Anne Arundel County.

CDS ARREST | Fourth St. at Greenhill Ave.: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle. Marijuana was recovered from the vehicle. The passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was arrested.

TRESSPASS/DISORDERLY CONDUCT ARREST | 300 block of Montross Ave.: Officers made contact with a 41-year-old man who was found to be banned from that address. After being released, the subject was arrested in the 800 block of Karen Ct. for disorderly conduct. 

DUI/CDS ARREST | 200 block of Fort Meade Rd.: Officers made contact with a 37-year-old woman after she was involved in an accident. She was arrested for DUI and possession of crack.

Tuesday, May 28

ALCOHOL VIOLATION | 800 block of Washington Blvd.: A 53-year-old man was arrested for having open alcohol in public.

THEFT ARREST | 600 block of Seventh St.: A juvenile male was arrested for stealing items from Seven Eleven.

Saturday, May 29

WARRANT ARREST | 600 block of Main St: Officers made contact with a 50-year-old man who was found to have an open warrant for violation of probation. He was placed under arrest.

VANDALISM/THEFT ARREST | 14800 block of Belle Ami Dr.: Officers responded for a call about multiple suspicious subjects in the area throwing rocks. Five juvenile subjects were arrested for vandalism and theft.

ALCOHOL VIOLATION | 100 block of Irving St.: Officers made contact with a 37-year-old man who was found to have open alcohol in public. He was placed under arrest.

WARRANT/FALSE IMPRISONMENT ARREST | 300 block of Thomas Dr.: Officers searched the area for a male subject known to have an open warrant for domestic assault. The subject was located and subsequently arrested. Further investigation warranted extra charges against the man for false imprisonment of his neighbor.

Thursday, May 30

DISORDERLY ARREST | 15101 Baltimore Ave. (Azteca Bar & Grill): Officers made contact with a 30-year-old man at Azteca and arrested him for disorderly conduct. 

DUI ARREST | 13600 block of Baltimore Ave.: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle and discovered the driver—a 28-year-old man—had no license. He was also found to have an open warrant in Florida. The subject was arrested and transported to Prince George’s County DOC. 

DUI ARREST | 200 block of Second St.: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 25-year-old man, was found to have no license. He was arrested and also charged with DUI.

Friday, May 31

DRUG ARREST | Officers made contact with a 50-year-old man. Officers discovered he had an open warrant and recovered marijuana.

FRAUD ARREST | 14260 Baltimore Ave. (Navy Credit Union): Officers received a phone call about a possible fraud in progress at Navy Credit Union. When they responded, they made contact with a 22-year-old man. An investigation was conducted, after which the subject was arrested and charged with forgery and theft.

DUI/OPEN ALCOHOL ARRESTS | 100 block of Bowie Rd.: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. Officers located open alcohol in the vehicle. The driver, a 27-year-old man, was arrested and charged with DUI. Another occupant in the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, was arrested for open alcohol.

ROBBERY | Bowie Rd./Lafayette Ave.: Officers took a report for an armed robbery. The victim was approached from behind in the area of Bowie Rd. and Lafayette Ave. at around 2 or 3 a.m. and pushed to the ground by four males in their 20s. One of the subjects produced a knife and cut the victim's pocket out of his jeans, continuing to cut the jeans. The victim’s wallet was taken.
