Laurel Crime: Three Armed Robberies; Assault on Bayshore Drive

Police also removed 16 ducklings from a storm drain and led them to safety.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from April 13-20, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Saturday, April 13

ANIMAL COMPLAINT | 300-BLK Montrose Avenue, 8:42 AM: Officers responded to the area for the report of ducklings trapped in the storm drain. Officers were able to remove all 16 ducklings from the storm drain and reunite them with the mother.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT ARREST | 900-BLK Seventh Street, 1:06 PM: Officers responded to the area for the report of a violent domestic. Officers observed a female with visible injuries on as a result of the assault. A 32-year-old man was arrested.

MISSING CHILD LOCATED | 14700-BLK Shiloh Court, 2:26 PM: Officers responded to the area for the report of a found child. A 3-year-old male was located walking around the apartment complex by himself. Officers were able to locate the child’s residence and return him to his caretaker.

Sunday, April 14

DUI ARREST | 500-BLK Washington Boulevard, 2:35 PM: Officers responded to the area an accident. Upon contacting one of the drivers, a 47-year-old man, officers recognized he was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him for DUI.

DRUG PARAPHERNALIA ARREST | 300-BLK Gorman Avenue, 10:52 PM: An officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle. During the stop, officers located drug paraphernalia and a 19-year-old male was arrested.

Monday, April 15

ARMED ROBBERY | 700-BLK Montgomery Street, 7:23 PM: Officers responded to the area for the report of an armed robbery. A juvenile male was playing basketball with several other juveniles when they were approached by a subject who displayed a black handgun and took the victim’s shoes. The suspect is described as male who was wearing a black jacket and black hat with lime green trim on it. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Laurel Police Department at 301-498-0092.

RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT | 900-BLK Fourth Street, 11:17 PM: Officers responded to the area for the report of an armed subject. The victim stated a subject—later identified as a 28-year-old man—was sitting on a bench shooting a gun in the direction of the victim. The man was arrested after further investigation revealed that he had been shooting a pellet gun towards the victim.

Wednesday, April 17

SHOPLIFTING ARREST | 14260 Baltimore Ave (Five Below), 10:34 AM: Officers responded to the Five Below for a shoplifter. Officers made contact with the suspect, identified as a 55-year-old man. Through investigation he was found to have stolen two bottles of perfume. He was arrested and charged with the theft. 

THEFT | 7850 Contee Rd, 6:21 AM: Officers responded for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed all four rims and tires stolen from a Cadillac in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Investigation is ongoing.

Thursday, April 18

WARRANT ARREST | 7800-blk Contee Rd, 6:27 PM: Officers made contact with a 46-year-old woman. Through investigation she was found to have an open warrant and was arrested. 

ASSAULT | 7900-blk Bayshore Drive, 2:47 AM: Officers responded to Bayshore Drive and spoke with a 48-year-old female. She stated she was at Laurel Station earlier in the evening and was assaulted by four females in the parking lot. She was treated by Laurel Rescue for minor injuries. Investigation is continuing.

Friday, April 19

ARMED ROBBERY | 820 Second St (Sunoco), 8:08 PM: 2 subjects entered the Sunoco gas station armed with knives and wearing masks. One was wearing a black ski mask, black sweatshirt and gray pants. One of the subjects placed the knife against an employee’s chest and demanded money. Both suspects then fled the area. Detectives responded and an investigation is ongoing. ARMED ROBBERY | 14910-Blk Bowie Rd, 9:34 PM: 2 subjects wearing black clothing and black ski masks produced a handgun and demanded money from a victim walking on the footpath between Summerlyn Apartments and the Laurel Rescue Squad. The victim’s wallet was taken and the suspects fled the area. Detectives responded and an investigation is ongoing. DUI ARREST | 1-Blk Second St, 4:29 AM: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. Through investigation the driver, a 22-year-old male, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
