Laurel Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer

Authorities said the 23-year-old was found with a variety of law enforcement-style lights and equipment in his vehicle.

A Laurel resident was charged with impersonating an officer Saturday after authorities found extensive law enforcement-type equipment in his vehicle, according to Bowie police.

Erick Shawn Cooke, 23, of Laurel was arrested alongside Deonte Monchez Callaham, 21, of Washington, D.C. and Demetrius Charles Callaham, 24, of Washington, D.C. outside of Regal Bowie Cinema (15200 Major Lansdale Blvd.).

According to Bowie police, an officer on patrol around 12:05 a.m. noticed the three men "loitering and acting disorderly" next to a vehicle near the side entrance of the theatre.

The vehicle, which police later determined belonged to Cooke, had "colored LED flashing lights in the grill and the dashboard area of the vehicle."

Police said the officer approached the suspects and told them to disperse, in keeping with posted "no loitering" signs. When they allegedly refused those instructions, the three were placed under arrest.

Upon searching the vehicle, police said they found it to be equipped with LED flashing lights, a dashboard light, a windshield-mounted light assembly, and a passenger-side flashing light assembly.

A polo shirt with "police" printed on the front and back, a pair of handcuffs, a stun gun, and a replica of a Glock handgun were also found inside, according to police.

All three men were charged with failure to obey a lawful order, obstructing, and disorderly conduct. Cooke was additionally charged with impersonating a police officer.

Cooke's car was impounded and the suspects transported to the Prince George's County Department of Corrections for processing, police said.
